Tom’s discernment to the diaconate came as a result of a series of accepted invitations. The first came ten years prior as an invitation from the Lord to change his life, seek a deeper understanding of the faith, and connect with him as a beloved son. Then came invitations to join a men’s group at Holy Cross Church in West Fargo, to attend a Cursillo Retreat, to become a Man of the Cross, and to get involved in the Made for Greatness Men’s Ministry of the Diocese of Fargo.
The virtuous men he encountered in those groups kept him true to the first invitation from the Lord and started him on the path to the diaconate. Deacon Bruce Dahl, founder of the Men of the Cross, played a significant role in his discernment. His humble witness, service, and love for Christ initially got Tom considering the call to the diaconate. His continual support and counsel helped Tom make the final decision to apply for formation.
Tom is a registered nurse with a master’s degree in nursing administration. He is currently the operations director for the New Life Center in Fargo. He married his wife Audrey in 1985. Her steadfast support and unwavering faith have been an instrumental part of this journey.
