In the immediate wake of the Pope St. Paul VI’s landmark document Humanae Vitae, which reaffirmed the Church's timeless teaching on the intimate link between marriage and sexuality, the future Pope St. John Paul II launched an initiative of married couple groups. Through these groups he would lead couples deeper into the gift of what he referred to as “conjugal spirituality”.
Conjugal spirituality is the relationship between God and the spouses, united as one. This new relationship is formed through the Sacrament of Marriage. This real spiritual union can be so profound, said John Paul II, that the spouses have but one interior life! Conjugal spirituality is also the key to finding unshakable joy and peace in marriage.
To assist couples in living this out, John Paul wrote a “Rule for Married Couples” detailing the means of growing in this conjugal spirituality. However, through a series of events (including his election as Pope), this Rule was never published and was eventually misplaced only to be rediscovered during the investigations of his canonization process decades later.
Only recently translated into English, the Rule provides a key for couples to become great in holiness! For our 2024 NFP Day, Peter and Theresa Martin (the translators of John Paul’s Rule) will unpack the Holy Father’s insight into how Humanae Vitae provides a roadmap to flourishing in marriage and securing profound and lasting joy!
Cost for the day-long seminar is $40/individual or $70/couple, lunch is included.
