No matter the cause or circumstances, no matter how amicable, divorce always brings with it some level of devastation. While we recognize that those going through divorce need extra love and support, often lost in the midst of all this are the deep and lasting effects this has on children, even adult children, whose God-given source of stability and security has just been leveled. The myth that “the kids will be fine” simply fails to take stock of the real and profound wounds of those left behind after the assets have been divided and new lives begun.
Often enough children of divorce are left to wrestle with wounds of silence, broken identity, loss of faith, unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and unforgiveness. In all of this, they can feel utterly alone with no voice and no direction.
Life Giving Wounds offers a way forward toward healing and wholeness again for adult children of divorce. It restores hope and plots a way forward to allow the healing love of Christ to transform those wounds and bring new life.
The Diocese of Fargo will be hosting the Life Giving Wounds Retreat for adult children of divorce on April 4-6. 2025.
The Life-Giving Wounds retreat is a unique opportunity for young adults (18+) and adults with divorced or separated parents to reflect intentionally on the wounds caused by their family’s breakdown, together with others who know this pain and knowledgeable, compassionate retreat leaders. With the help of God, retreat attendees learn to see how their life-draining wounds can become a life-giving mission of love for themselves, their relationships, and others.
