The Organization of the Diocese of Fargo

The Diocese of Fargo is organized into regions called deaneries and local communities called parishes.

Diocese: The ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop.

Deanery: A group of parishes within a certain region of a diocese.

• The Diocese of Fargo has 8 Deaneries.

• The Bishop appoints a Dean to each Deanery.
• A Dean is a priest who represents the Bishop and works “to promote and coordinate common pastoral action of the parishes.” (Canon 555)

Parish: “A stable community of the Christian faithful.” (Canon 515)

• “Pastoral care is entrusted to a pastor under the authority of the diocesan bishop.” (Canon 515)
