THE VIANNEY PROGRAM
Wondering about God’s plan for you?
The
Vianney Program at Cardinal Muench
Seminary is designed for men over the age of 18 who are considering a
possible call to the priesthood, but who are not yet sure enough of that call to
commit to entering the seminary.
You may be currently in school. You may be currently in a career, Yet you may
sense something is still missing. The Vianney Program will aid you in
discovering if that “something missing” is in fact a call to the priesthood.
“I tell you that you have less to suffer in following
the Cross than in serving the world and its pleasures.”
-
St. John Vianney
Participants in the Vianney program are not required to take part in the
academic program of the Seminary but will be a part of the spiritual formation
program and take part in the seminary community events as much as possible. There
is a
cost for the program, which includes room and board at the Seminary. At the
completion of one year, the individual is expected to enter the seminary or
return to the lay life of the Church.
“Oh, the priest is something great! If he knew it, he
would die.” - St. John Vianney
Who is St. John Vianney?
St. John Vianney was born near Lyons, France, in 1786. After overcoming many
difficulties, he was ordained a priest in 1815. In 1818 he was assigned to a
parish in Ars, where he spent the rest of his life. He was best known for his
steadfast care of souls, for his spirit of prayer and mortification, and, above
all, for his tireless dedication to the Sacrament of Penance. He spent most of
his life in the confessional, drawing energy from his intimate and constant
friendship with Our Lord in the Eucharist. He died on August 4, 1859, and is the
patron saint of parish priests.
