“During my recent deanery visits, some raised the question on how do we evangelize in our local parishes. The School of Evangelization is one of the best ways to learn about evangelization and how to do it. I encourage the faithful of the diocese to attend the upcoming June workshop to help them implement evangelization in their parishes.”

What to Expect at the school

The School of Evangelization consists of 3 ‘tracks’
Participants attend each track daily like a class schedule.

Track 1: The Theology of Evangelization – This track is designed to help participants understand the call to evangelization as taught in the scriptures and Church documents, and the essential vocation of every Catholic to fulfill the Great Commission.

Track 2: Character, Holiness, and Empowerment –This track focuses on the participant’s own spiritual journey and growth in holiness and is designed to empower the participants to evangelize through a deeper surrender to the Lord and in-filling of the Holy Spirit. The participants learn important prayers and ways of reaching out to those who are hurting.

Track 3: Techniques in Evangelization –This track will teach participants various practical methods of evangelization. The final day consists of field work—going out on the street and evangelizing, utilizing the various methods participants have learned. The last session is a time when the participants share what they have learned throughout the week and what they experienced out on the streets.

*Daily Mass is included in the schedule including opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation, Praise and Worship, etc.

Catechetical symposium June 8 in Bathgate

Dr. Petroc Willey, editor of the international catechetical journal The Sower, and Deputy
Director of Maryvale Institute in Birmingham, England, will once again be in North Dakota as
the featured presenter in a catechetical symposium: Working Together to Make Catechesis
Visible & Vital.
Dr. Willey’s gift of communicating the truths of the Catholic faith with humor and insight is
well-known, as is his exceptional knowledge of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The day
will also include time for discussion, a panel and a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Father
Peter Sharpe. This symposium, sponsored jointly by the Diocese of Fargo and the Bethlehem
Community’s Virgil Michel Center, will take place in Bathgate on Monday, June 8, beginning at
9 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m., with an optional supper available at 5:30 p.m.
The event provides an ideal way for all those interested in handing on their Catholic faith—
priests, religious, religious education directors, faith formation teachers, parents and
godparents—to come together as the Year of St. Paul draws to a close.
Cost is $25 per person with pre-registration and $35 at the door. Contact the diocesan Office of
Catechesis at (701) 356-7908 for a registration form or for more information, or contact Lydia
Reynolds at (701) 265-3717 or lydia@bethlehembooks.com. (There will be no childcare
