PRAYER FOR THE MARIAN EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS
Diocese of Fargo

Most Blessed Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; we ask You through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that You successfully bring to completion the Marian Eucharistic Congress.

Holy Spirit, grant that all hearts will be open to the graces given by The Divine Mercy so that they will accept what He gives them and do what He asks of them. Convert and renew all minds and hearts of those attending the congress. Light the fire of their love for You.

We ask for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the speakers, the audience and everyone working for the congress. Give divine guidance for those planning the congress and help them make wise decisions. Inspire people to be generous in offering their help, and give strength to them in their work.

We pray for the safety of all travelers to the congress, and ask St. Raphael and all the angels and saints to surround and protect them.

We ask Jesus to cover with His Precious Blood all those in the congress, and we come against Satan and all evil spirits in the Name of Jesus, and we ask St. Michael to protect us.

Please give direction and light to all those who promote devotion to the Eucharistic Lord, the Divine Mercy and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Lastly, we consecrate the entire Marian Eucharistic Congress to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, The Divine Mercy and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and we ask that all participants will come to a greater knowledge,  love and devotion for them.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Eucharistic Lord. Amen.

Origin of the Marian Eucharistic Congress Prayer

Sr. Maurella with a small child
Sister Maurella (Schliese)  . . . a name not unknown to many, particularly in the upper Midwest.  She did travel, though in recent years, her travels were limited due to health reasons.  But she still prayed, and she encouraged others to pray, and never to overlook the power of prayer, be it for the holy souls in purgatory or for personal needs and healings.

Sister Maurella was a sister of St Joseph of Carondolet, whose Motherhouse is in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her first love was teaching, and especially teaching children, which she did for many years.  In later years she lived and carried on her prayer-life in Fargo; heading up her weekly prayer group, praying for others’ needs, and always to include prayer for healing.  People always brought their intentions to her, and she took all these intentions, wrote them down, and placed them in her prayer-care.  Her phone number was on my “speed dial”!

She traveled, she wrote, but mostly she prayed.  She attended Mass twice daily for many years, always walking to and from the church to her little apartment.  She was a role model for her tenacity and trust in the power of prayer.

Sister Maurella called me one day, about 10 years ago, and very matter-of-factly told me that she had been given a prayer by the Holy Spirit; and that I should start to pray it, too . . . for the upcoming Marian Eucharistic Congress.  “OK, Sister”.  . . I said, with a rather dubious tone.  I didn’t want to offend her, and I knew Sister was one to be taken seriously when it came to something like this . . . But, I thought, I was already praying so many prayers!?!?  I supposed one more certainly couldn’t hurt. . . . Anyway, after I prayed it the first time . . . (funny thing, I could never just read it) . . . I was overwhelmed by it’s sweetness and sensitivity.  How did she know that the Marian Eucharistic Congress would always have in its sights . . . and specifically so .  . . Our Eucharistic Lord, the Divine Mercy, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary? How perfectly honest a prayer, I thought.  It begged assistance and protection for all those people even remotely connected with the Congress.  How awesomely perfect! It was exactly what we needed to pray.  The words were so right and specifically for each Congress, and as the years passed to include more Congresses.

Well, this is the first year since the first Marian Eucharistic Congress in 1994 that Sister Maurella, too, has passed on.  She is home now, with her dear Lord and Savior, holy Mother Mary, and all the angels and saints.  We miss this very special lady--Sister Maurella--but we will continue to pray the words that were given to her “by the Holy Spirit” for the Marian Eucharistic Congress.  Her little “Prayer Room” down the west corridor at the Civic Auditorium will be empty this year, but I know very well that she will be with us in an even more special way. . . And the Diocese of Fargo, as well as the Marian Eucharistic Congress, has another “spiritual gem” to add to its treasure.  We who knew her have been greatly blessed.  She was a person of faith.

But any one of us/you can ask for that same intercession.  And as you prepare yourself to attend this beautiful and spiritual weekend in Fargo in October, please consider praying the very words that Sister Maurella first gave to me over 10 years ago.  I say to you, as she told me the first time . . .

“I think you need to pray this prayer that I have just been given by the Holy Spirit.”
