Books and Recommended Programs

Books

THE EVANGELIZING CATHOLIC:  A PRACTICAL HANDBOOK FOR REACHING OUT.  A “how-to” book on individual and parish evangelization which contains a wealth of information and incentives to help the average Catholic and average parish discover opportunities and practical strategies for reaching others with the Catholic Faith.  Written by Father Frank DeSiano, CSP, a consultant to the USCCB Committee on Evangelization in 1998 and published by Paulist Press.

CREATING THE EVANGELIZING PARISH.  Shows people involved in parish ministry what Catholic evangelization is all about, ways to look at and analyze their parish, and ways to approach developing a consistent evangelizing ministry through parish organization, evangelization team formation and practical ministerial strategies.  Written by Father Kenneth Boyack, CSP, Director of PNCEA and Father Frank DeSiano, CSP in 1993.  Both are consultants to the USCCB Committee on Evangelization and is published by Paulist Press.

Programs

Theology on Tap.  It’s here in Fargo and Grand Forks, but your parish could also run this outreach to young adults.  The title “Theology-on-Tap” and the program’s design was trademarked by the Young Adult Ministry Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2001 (Service Mark Reg. No. 2,509,515). In order for any individual, organization, or group of organizations to host the program or use the title or logo for any purpose, they must first obtain permission in writing from the Archdiocese of Chicago. They are strictly enforcing that copyright in order to ensure that the program remains a strong, credible tool of evangelization and catechesis for young adults (20s & 30s, married and single).

CHRISTLIFE has developed a seven-session video teaching series entitled Sharing Christ. This exciting series is designed to equip every Catholic with the practical tools necessary to proclaim the Gospel, draw others into a dynamic personal relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior, and to invite them to become his disciples as members of the Catholic Church. It is ideal for use in small groups, parishes and dioceses.

CHRISTLIFE is a lay Catholic ministry established in response to the Church's call to a new evangelization. William Cardinal Keeler recognized ChristLife as an apostolate of the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 1995.

CHRISTLIFE exists to equip Catholics for the essential work of evangelization so that others might come to know personally the love of God through Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit, becoming his followers and members of the Church.  CHRISTLIFE’s mission is to train and equip Catholic Christians to—

bullet proclaim the Gospel in their homes, neighborhoods, schools and workplaces;
bullethelp others to personally encounter the risen Lord Jesus; and
bullet disciple others, helping them know, love and serve the Lord, in the context of the Catholic Church.

The Paulists have two new outreach programs

bullet directed towards inactive Catholics and is called  Catholic Reaching Out
bullet directed towards inviting the unchurched to explore the Catholic faith and is called Invite!

Both starter kits provide everything you need to do the simple programs.  Aside from their intended benefit, they assist Catholics in becoming comfortable with the mission of evangelization.

…Wordless witness always remains insufficient, because even the finest witness will prove ineffective in the long run if it is not explained, justified—what Peter called always having your answer ready for people who ask you the reason for the hope you have within you.  (Reference: 1 Pt 3:15; Evangelii Nuntiandi, Pope Paul VI)
