Different Ways to Pray, Sisters of Mary
of the Presentation, Valley City
Share your favorite way to pray and learn with a group, many other ways to
experience God. This group will meet for about an hour the third Thursday
of the month at 7 p.m. beginning September 20 at Maryvale Spiritual Life Center, 11550 River Road,

Saturday Morning Coffee, Sisters of Mary
of the Presentation, Valley City
A Saturday morning coffee group will meet for an hour pondering scripture
and other points of interest and their application to life. The study guide will
be the book, "Your Spiritual Garden," by Pegge Bernecker. The group, hosted by
the sisters at Maryvale, 11550 River Road, Valley City, meets every second

Centering Prayer Sessions, Sisters of
Mary of the Presentation, Valley City
Centering Prayer is a very simple way of praying and can be used by anyone
who wants to be with God, to experience God's love and presence. It is a prayer
of longing that leads into a prayer of presence. Sessions are monthly and are
one hour long beginning Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at 7 p.m. Come to the first
session and learn more about this ancient form of prayer which can be important

Extended Retreat,
Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, Valley City
this retreat extends over thirty weeks. The spirituality and methods of St. Ignatious, which aresteeped in the gospels, are models for this retreat. These
weeks of prayer are meant for persons busy with every day life but looking for
guides for the spiritual life. In this retreat, ther person prays a scripture
passage daily and meets with a director once a week. Begining Tuesday, September

Mentoring New Americans in English, Sisters of the
Presentation, Fargo
Mentoring New Americans in English, an annual summer program at Presentation
Center, 1101 32nd Ave. S., Fargo, is seeking volunteers. Come and work with the
Sisters and other volunteers one-on-one with adults learning English, or
supervise their children in games and other activities. Meeting times are from
6:45 to 8:30 p.m. (instruction from 7-8 p.m. with time for reflection to

Hankinson
A retreat for mothers and daughters interested in religious life will be
hosted by the Sisters of St. Francis in Hankinson. "Mother-Daughter Days"
includes: daily Mass, ample time for prayer, several talks, opportunities for
discussion, meals with the Sisters, community recreation and quality

Illusions Workshop to combat Pornography, Shanley HS, Fargo
Bishop Aquila encourages members of the clergy, educators, and parents to
take advantage of the Illusions workshop offered August 7, 2008 at Shanley High
School, 5600 25th St. S, Fargo, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. The workshop is free and
open to the public. The workshop will offer concrete ways to combat pornography
in our homes, schools, and parishes.

16-17: Cursillo Camp-out, Grand Rapids
A Cursillo Camp-out for all Cursillistas and families
will be at Memorial Park in Grand Rapids, Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17.
Participants will gather on Saturday at 5 p.m. for Mass in the park followed by
a cookout. Hamburgers, hot dogs and buns will be provided. Please bring a dish
to pass, beverage and silverware, camping equipment, lawn chairs and musical
instruments for singing around the campfire. Breakfast will be provided Sunday

August 17: 52nd annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the
Prairies, Carmel of Mary Monastery, Wahpeton
52nd
annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Prairies, Carmel of Mary
Monastery, 17765 78th St. S.E., Wahpeton (six and one-half miles
northwest of Wahpeton.) Spiritual talk by Msgr. Robert Laliberte begins at 2:30
p.m., full Rosary begins at 3:30 p.m., Mass at 5 p.m. Confessions will be heard
before Mass, and the Knights of Columbus will serve a meal, free-will offer
picnic style, after Mass. Pilgrims are encouraged to bring any prayer petitions
to offer at Mass and then will be given to the Carmelite Nuns to pray over, and
to bring a basket of their harvested goods to offer at Mass and to the
Carmelites.

September 7: Father
Matthew Habiger is guest homilist at Nativity Church, Fargo
Father Matthew Habiger, O.S.B., will be the guest homilist for all Masses at
Nativity Church in Fargo on Sunday, September 7. Father Habiger is the former
president of Human Life International and speaks on behalf of NFP Outreach, an
Oklahoma City based organization which serves as a clearinghouse for accurate,
up-to-date information on Natural Family Planning. In addition to the Sunday
homily, Father Habiger will offer a mini-seminar on God’s Plan for Spousal Love
following the 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Masses. All are invited to attend.

September 7: Open Forum with Fr. Matthew Habiger on same-sex marriages, St.
Paul Newman Center, Fargo
What’s sex got to do with it? As courts across our nation continue to debate
on same-sex marriages, the Catholic church remains steadfast in her belief that
marriage is between one man and one woman. Fr. Habiger, O.S.B., is the former
president of Human Life International and speaks extensively on marriage and
natural family planning. He will address this important issue at an open forum
on Sunday, Sept. 7th, 7pm, St. Paul Newman Center, 1141 North University Drive,
Fargo. All are invited to attend.

September 28: Walk with Christ for Life, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo
Bishop Samuel Aquila invites all the faithful to join him in this year’s
Eucharistic procession to the state’s only abortion facility. The annual Walk
with Christ for Life will take place on Sunday, September 28 beginning with
Noon Mass at the Cathedral of St. Mary, 604 Broadway, Fargo. A Eucharistic
procession to the abortion facility will follow immediately after Mass and
conclude with Benediction at the Cathedral. All are encouraged to take part in
this day of prayer for the unborn and an end to abortion in our city and state.

October 1: Sowing
Seeds of Hope Seminar, Pastoral Center, Fargo
It is estimated that as many as 500 million people worldwide suffer from
some form of mental illness. These same persons live and move within our
parish communities and are in need of a sensitive care and concern on the
part of parishioners and care-givers. This year’s Life Issues Seminar,
Sowing Seeds of Hope, will focus on mental illness and Catholic
parishes’ response to meeting the needs of individuals and families. Morning
presentations will feature Dr. Theresa Burke, M.A., Ph.D., founder of
Rachel’s Vineyard ministry. She will present on sowing seeds of healing for
those who have experienced an abortion. The afternoon presentations will
draw our attention to common forms of mental illness. Rosalie Etherington,
Ph.D., Clinical Director for Inpatient Services at the North Dakota State
Hospital will speak on the clinical aspects of depression. Father Bernard
Schneider, Chaplain for Altru Medical Center, Grand Forks, will address the
spiritual needs of care-givers and of individuals who may suffer from mental
illness. Contact hours will be available for nurses. Parish nurses, clergy
and laity are encouraged to attend. Cost is $45/person. This event will be

Search is a peer to peer ministry, youth ministering to youth, for those who
are single and for this weekend age 18 and older. Hosted at Maryvale Convent,
11550 River Road, Valley City, the weekend helps participants grow in their
faith and in their relationship with Christ. The cost for team members is $30.
For the new Searcher, the fee is $50. Application deadline is September 30.

October 25: Theology of the Body for Teens Training Workshop, Devils Lake
Catechists and clergy are invited to take part in a day-long workshop on
Ascension Press’s text Theology of the Body for Teens. Brian Butler,

January 17-23, 2009: Youth Pilgrimage for Life, Washington
D.C.
Youth in
grades 9-12 from across the Diocese of Fargo are invited to participate in the
36th annual March for Life in Washington D.C. on January 22, 2009. The
pilgrimage will begin in Fargo on January 17, 2009, and return January 23. In
addition to participating in the March and the Vigil Mass for Life at the
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, youth will also travel to Emittsburg, MD,
to visit the Mother Seton Shrine, and see the sights of Washington, D.C. The
cost for the 6-day pilgrimage is $825 and includes air and ground travel,
lodging, meals and tour fees. Registration deadline is October 31. To
