Junior High Youth Rally
April 5, 2008 |
|
The Jr. High Youth Rally will be held at the High School in Oakes, ND, on
Saturday, April 5.
The day will begin at 9:30 am with registration and large group games and
music. From there we will jump into opening prayer, intro of CYAC and other
surprises.
Our keynote speaker this year is Sr. Margaret Lekan. She was born on July
26, 1976 in Poznan, Poland as a middle child of three. She grew up in Poland
where she received primary, high school and two years of university study.

Sister Margaret Lekan |
|
Margaret entered the community of the Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate
Conception in 1995 with a class size of 16. She took her first vows in 1997.
She then enrolled in the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland studying
theology. This university is where John Paul II taught as the bishop and
cardinal.
In the fall of 2000, Margaret arrived in the US on a full scholarship to
Gannon University in Erie, PA. She then transferred to Franciscan University
in Steubenville, OH in 2001.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theology in 2002 and with a
master’s in theology in 2004 from Franciscan University; she also did an
additional year of studies in Psychological Counseling.
In 2005 Margaret went back to Poland for a year of formation before taking
her solemn vows. She professed her solemn vows with nine other sisters from
Poland.
In the fall of 2005 now, Sr. Margaret Lekan, missioned to the Provincial
House at Rosary Hill in Justice, IL and was entrusted with responsibilities
of the vocation director, director of the Dominican Retreat Center,
part-time catechist and part-time youth minister. Sister also developed a
youth ministry program called Dominican Youth Days; about 40 students met
every month for catechesis, fun, prayer, good movies and fellowship.
Sister has planned and produced three Polish Archdiocesan Youth Rallies for
three years in a row. These gatherings have hosted 1600 youth a time.
Please join CYAC as we welcome Sr. Margaret Lekan to our Jr. High Youth
Rally as our keynote speaker this spring.
Our day won’t be complete without Reconciliation, Mass, Eucharistic
Adoration and a procession to Mass.
We will be mingling often with ice breakers and large group games through
out
the day so students and adults alike can get to know each other better.
The evening will bring the Catholic rock band, “Leap of Faith”, to our Youth
events for the first time. Please welcome the members of Leap of Faith with
a huge North Dakota welcome. They will play and bring us a message of Christ
from 6pm – 8pm at the High School. Check out Leap of Faith's Web site at:
www.leapoffaithonline.com to
see the band and listen to some of their songs.
Cost for the day is $25/student and $10/chaperone. You will be able to order
t-shirts in advance so they are waiting for you when you register at the
door. We hope to have some extra t-shirts on hand in case someone decides
they just can’t go home without one.
Deadline to register will be Friday, March 21. For more information, please
contact Kathy at 701-356-7902.

Diocesan Summer Bible Camps
(Grades 3-8)
Young Disciples teams put on week-long camps at parishes
for elementary students. The camps focus
on telling the Salvation Story through music, lessons, and activities. They
also include teaching the students to make time
each day for prayer. Mass, confession and the rosary are a part of every
camp day. In the evenings, the teams are asked to do other works
of ministry, including leading
adult discussion nights, teen nights and family nights.

CONTINUING EVENTS
CYAC - Catholic Youth Advisory Council
This is an active leadership youth council that creates, promotes and leads two
Diocesan Youth days a year. In the fall Youth Celebration is held for 9th thru
12th grade and in the spring Youth Rally is held for 6th thru 8th grade.
Youth members and their adult advisors live throughout the Diocese of Fargo.
They come together five times during the year to prepare and implement the
Diocesan Youth days. If you are interested in being on CYAC you need to be in
the tenth grade, have an adult advisor that can come with you to each of the
five sessions and be willing to share and grow in your spirituality of the
Catholic faith. If you enjoy brainstorming, collaborating with others, and
making things rich in spirituality happen for the teens of the Diocese of Fargo,
you are a candidate for CYAC. Contact Kathy Loney in the Diocesan Youth Office,
701-356-7902 or
Kathy.loney@fargodiocese.org. She’s waiting to hear from you today!
Here you will find all the
information you need to about SEARCH in the Diocese of Fargo including dates,
locations, applications and more. Located at Maryvale Convent (Valley
City, ND) and St. Cecilia's (Harvey, ND), Search is open to everyone 16 years old
through their mid 20's.
