Catechist Training/Certification Bishop Aquila states, "Catechists should be fully initiated in and be in full communion with the Catholic Church. In collaboration with the diocese, parishes are to provide for the formation of catechists. Section V (link to section V) provides further guidance in this area." (Policy Section II, page 3 of the Diocesan Parish Catechesis Manual)
We are continuing to provide opportunities for catechist formation in our diocese. Following is a short list of opportunities that are available in addition to what is being offered at the parish level. Saint John Bosco Conference 2006 information now available. EPS - as catechist
training Other Catechist Training Resources 1. Before you study the Bible, discover the big picture is the theme of the study materials prepared by Jeff Cavins called The Great Adventure: Bible Timeline. These are available from The Bible Time Line and Ascension Press. Going through this study is invaluable to understanding the Bible and Salvation History, that is, how God has made it possible to save us from sin and to become His children. The Great Adventure will give you the tools for a lifetime of enriching Bible study and devotional reading. This study is available video and DVD, thus accommodating many different schedules and locations. You could even book your own Bible timeline seminar at your parish. 2. Maryvale Institute offers distance learning for catechists, DRE's and adults. Of particular interest to catechists is the Echoes program and the certificate in evangelization and ministry. They also offer bachelor's degree in parish catechesis. 3. Catholic Distance University offers online courses and seminars for catechists, DRE's and adults. The Catholic Distance University was established in 1983 to respond to the need for life-long spiritual formation and a deeper knowledge of Church Teaching. CDU's mission calls for transmitting faithfully and systematically the teachings of Sacred Scripture, the living Tradition of the Church and the authentic Magisterium, as well as the spiritual heritage of the Fathers, Doctors and Saints. 4.
