Office of the Bishop

Bishop Samuel Aquila's motto is "Do whatever He tells you" (John 2:5). He selected this motto because of his deep belief that everything we need can be found in Jesus Christ. As he visits parishes, teaches through his homilies, and speaks to Catholics and non-Catholics throughout the Diocese of Fargo, he hopes to inspire all of us to give ourselves fully to our Lord, to live our lives according to our faith, and to do whatever Jesus calls us to do.

Bishop Aquila is assisted by the Vicar General, Rev. Msgr. Joseph Goering. The Very Rev. Luke Meyer serves as Chancellor and Priest/Secretary to Bishop Aquila.

The Diocese of Fargo was established in 1889 and comprises 30 counties over 35,786 square miles in eastern North Dakota. It has a Catholic population of 83,752 people out of a total population of 379,798 (22%). There are 141 priests (including active, retired and those serving outside the diocesan area), 43 permanent deacons, 117 religious sisters and 132 parishes in the diocese.
